Comfort Starts With the Right Balance

Whole-House Humidifier Installation and Service

A whole-house humidifier may help when indoor humidity is too low and dry-air discomfort affects more than one room. Bomar Heating and Cooling provides humidifier installation and service, with equipment selected for the home and its HVAC system.

Begin with the conditions you have measured or noticed. Humidity control works best when the need is established and settings account for the home's response, rather than adding moisture simply because the air feels different in winter.

How Whole-House Humidification Works

A central humidifier adds moisture through a compatible HVAC arrangement. Controls regulate operation, and the equipment has water, maintenance and installation requirements that depend on its design.

Bypass, powered and steam options have different requirements. The selection should consider the existing heating system, available space, water supply, electrical needs and the amount of humidification appropriate to the home.

Plan Installation Around the System

  • Confirm equipment and control compatibility.
  • Identify water, electrical and drainage requirements.
  • Provide access for inspection and routine maintenance.
  • Explain how the humidity setting is adjusted.
  • Clarify which parts need periodic cleaning or replacement.
  • Include necessary connection work in the installation scope.

Ask how the proposed humidifier will serve the home and what ongoing care it adds. An installation should remain practical to maintain after the equipment is in place.

Service for an Existing Humidifier

Request attention if an existing unit leaks, no longer changes indoor humidity, operates inconsistently or shows a recurring control problem. Tell us what has changed and whether routine service has been performed.

Do not keep increasing the setting to compensate for a unit that is not working. The controls, water delivery and equipment condition may need evaluation. Ask what the repair will address and whether replacement is appropriate based on the findings.

Avoid Excess Moisture

The EPA describes 30-50% relative humidity as an ideal general range, but a fixed setting is not suitable for every home or outdoor condition. Cold windows and other surfaces can develop condensation even when a room reading seems comfortable.

Follow the equipment guidance and adjust to the home's response. If condensation appears, reduce added moisture and investigate the cause. A humidifier should not be used to chase a target reading while surfaces remain wet.

Maintenance and Indoor Air Quality

Care requirements vary by model and water conditions. Ask which tasks are appropriate for the homeowner and which require service. Keep the recommended schedule and replacement-item information with the equipment documents.

Humidity is only one part of the indoor environment. Filtration, ventilation and pollutant sources need their own consideration. A humidifier is not a medical treatment or a guaranteed way to reduce heating bills.
